The primary purpose of this position is to assist First Commerce in fulfilling our Vision of Empowering Generations, Transforming Communities. This is achieved through delivering Remarkable Member Service as defined by our Service Standards as well as building and maintaining strong member relationships through identification of member's financial needs and effectively recommending appropriate products and services to meet those needs.

The Accountant performs a variety of general accounting support tasks, including balancing the daily postings of the credit union, maintaining General Ledger (GL) account reconciliations, and participating in regularly scheduled processes and reporting. Heavily involved in all period-close processes, performs GL account variance analysis, and assists in financial modeling.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in quarterly preparation of the Call Report for review by management
  • Prepares multiple annual tax filings.
  • Enables the timely and accurate completion of all period-close processes by completing various tasks, GL journal entries, and GL account reconciliations.
  • Processes and reconciles Fixed Assets, Indirect Lending Deferred Fees, and Business Services Deferred fees.
  • Prepares various financial reports for management.
  • Assists in preparing documentation for all audits and regulatory examination requests.
  • Prepares daily bank reconciliations for Federal Reserve Bank, PCBB, and Servis First and other correspondent banking relationships.
  • Serves as an administrator for various processes and systems, as assigned.
  • Reviews daily the cash position of the credit union and approves funds transfer requests, in accordance with policy requirements.
  • Reconciles and maintains any general ledger accounts as assigned.
  • Serves as backup to all other accounting positions.
  • Trains Accounting team members in various tasks and reconciliations as assignments are updated and the Team cross-trains.
  • Serves in the role of floor supervisor in the absence of the Controller.
  • Assists with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to demonstrate a strong knowledge ofS. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and possess analytical skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, follow-up, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate Windows-based computer and be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Must be diligent, self-motivated with attention to detail, and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to effectively collaborate with other teams on a daily basis.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Performs job duties in accordance with policies established by the Board of Directors under the rules and regulations set by the National Credit Union Administration, the State of Florida and any applicable State laws for financial centers located in other States.
  • Complies with Reg E, BSA, OFAC and CIP requirements such as reporting suspicious or unusual activity to manager.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of an associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field of study, or 10+ years of accounting experience.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in the accounting department of a mid-to-large-sized company is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a credit union or other financial institution is preferred.
